Concept
For LCD TVs, response time is always of concern. Slow response time is a major complaint raised by video
gamers as action sequences are rough and broken on a slow responding LCD. To satisfy the
demand for faster response time, we are currently working on OCB technology.
OCB uses the combination of two polarizing and compensation film layers to manipulate the arrangement of liquid crystals. In the “initial” state, liquid crystal molecules are horizontally stacked between the two layers. When the application is plugged in, the molecules are set into a “resting state,” or half vertical “bend” formation, in preparation for the full “on” state. In the “on” state the molecules are almost completely vertical. The resting state, or bend formation, reduces the time it takes for liquid crystals to shift from a resting to active state (see graphic).
