Concept
A typical TFT-LCD has its layers arranged in such a way that the color filter is part of the upper substrate. In an attempt to enhance brightness and color quality, the HYDIS R&D team is working on a way to position the color filter on the lower substrate.

Microscopically each individual pixel is rendered either red, green, or blue. Black lies between the pixels for contrast. This black area is called the black matrix. When the color filter is integrated onto the lower substrate the need for a large black matrix is reduced as it can be aligned more accurately for its function. This widens transmitted light apertures for higher transmittance.
